What a scan can tell you.
Your weight is made of bone, fat, water and muscle, in proportions that are different for everyone. A Corevue scan measures each of them. This page explains what every result means, how the scan arrives at it and how to read your own numbers.
Eleven measurements, explained.
Pick any result from the list for the full picture: what it is, why it’s worth knowing, how the scan gets there and how to read your own figure.

A current you’ll never feel.
Multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), powered by Tanita, is a safe and accurate way to look beneath the surface. It works because different tissues let electricity pass at different rates.
- 1
Contact
Your feet on the foot electrodes and your hands on the grips close a circuit through your body.
- 2
Current
A very small alternating current passes between the electrodes, at several frequencies in turn. It’s far too weak to feel.
- 3
Impedance
Muscle holds plenty of water and lets the current through with ease, while fat holds little and slows it down. That opposition, called impedance, is measured along each arm, each leg and the trunk.
- 4
Calculation
The impedance readings are combined with your measured height and weight, plus your age and sex, to produce your full set of results.
Why use more than one frequency? A low frequency mostly travels through the fluid around your cells, while a higher one can cross cell walls and pass through them too. Comparing the two gives a fuller picture of your water and tissue than a single reading could.
Not just how much. Where.

A wellness indicator, not a medical diagnosis.
Corevue gives you a true indicator of your inner health and, monitored over time, can show the impact of any fitness regime or weight loss programme. It does not diagnose any condition. Please don’t use BIA if you have a pacemaker or any other implanted electronic medical device. If you’re pregnant, have health concerns or a result surprises you, speak to your GP or a healthcare professional.
Good questions, plain answers.
